Report: Blue Jays release Lenyn Sosa

A Toronto Blue Jays depth infielder is heading for free agency.

As per the Buffalo Bisons transactions page, the organization has released infielder Lenyn Sosa and catcher William Simoneit. First on the news was The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon.

Sosa was acquired early in the 2026 season from the Chicago White Sox, with the Jays sending outfield prospect Jordan Rich the other way. Ironically, the Jays had just finished a series in Chicago in early April, and Sosa went 2 for 6 with a double against the Jays.

Following the trade, Sosa struggled to find a groove with the Blue Jays. Across 28 games and 80 at-bats, he put forward a .188/.205/.275 slash line with four doubles, one home run, and six RBIs with a .480 OPS. The Venezuelan product landed on the IL with a wrist injury in late May and hasn’t appeared in a big league game since.

At the time of his release, Sosa was in Buffalo rehabbing from the wrist injury. He suited up in 17 games for the Bisons this season, collecting 16 hits across 63 at-bats (.254) with a .706 OPS.

Also heading to free agency is William Simoneit, a veteran minor leaguer who signed with the club during the offseason. Simoneit spent the entire season in Triple-A, going .247/.330/.386 at the plate with a .716 OPS. The right-handed bat also added 11 doubles and four home runs while tossing 22% of base stealers and playing some first base.
