On Monday, the Chicago Cubs reportedly made another addition to their organization’s pitching arsenal. Per Lance Brozdowski of Marquee Sports , the Cubs have signed left-hander Josh Fleming. Fleming made just one appearance for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2026, going three innings in April against the Los Angeles Dodgers and giving up four runs. Before that, with both the Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners, Fleming had not pitched in Major League Baseball since 2024.
It’s well documented that the Cubs need pitching help in any way, shape, or form. Last week, they signed Jake Woodford and brought back Drew Pomeranz to join the mix. They’re making do with one of the most injured staffs in all of baseball.
As Brozdowski shares above, Fleming has a four-pitch arsenal that helped him post a 3.08 ERA in Triple-A this season. No roster move has officially been announced by the team yet. However, Fleming will likely begin his Cubs career with Triple-A Iowa before eventually being called up to join the bullpen.
The Cubs will begin a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore on Tuesday. After that, they will head into the All-Star break when they complete a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati. The Cubs are currently six games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central division.
