Report: Dodgers and Rays agree to Tyler Glasnow trade on one condition

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the verge of making another big splash this offseason. According to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Dodgers and Tampa Bays are in agreement on a trade that will send starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot to the Dodgers in exchange for two players.

The players are right-handed pitcher Ryan Pepiot and outfield prospect Johnny Deluca. The trade is entirely contingent on the Dodgers' ability to sign Glasnow to a contract extension. Passan reports that the extension window opened on Thursday morning and the Dodgers are hopeful they can have a deal in place with Glasnow as early as Friday. 

If the Dodgers are able to get Glasnow signed it would be a potentially significant addition to their rotation. When healthy, Glasnow is one of the most dominant right-handed starting pitchers in baseball and has Cy Young ability. He has a 3.89 ERA for his career, including a 3.20 ERA in six seasons with the Rays.

The one thing that has consistently held him back, however, has been injuries. Despite all of his dominance, he has appeared in just 127 games, starting only 88, in his eight-year career. 

He is so good when healthy that teams were willing to overlook the injury history and make him one of the most sought-after pitchers available on the market this offseason. 

The Dodgers already made one huge addition this offseason when they signed superstar Shohei Ohtani to a record 10-year, $700M contract. Ohtani will not be able to pitch in 2024 following offseason elbow surgery, but he will still add another elite bat to a lineup that contains Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

The Dodgers were already one of the best teams in baseball. With the additions of Ohtani and -- potentially -- Glasnow, they should be the odds-on favorites to win the National League. Anything short of an NLCS appearance would be a massive disappointment.
