Report: Former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen set to join Brewers

Former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen has a deal in place to join the Milwaukee Brewers, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

McCutchen, 35, became a star during his eight-season run with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he earned five straight trips to the MLB All-Star Game between 2011 and 2015. He earned NL MVP honors in 2013 when he batted .317 with 21 home runs and 84 runs batted in.

In January 2018, McCutchen was traded to the San Francisco Giants and, seven months later, he was traded again to the New York Yankees. He played only 25 games with the Yankees and joined the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent in December.

During the 2021 season, McCutchen batted .222 with 27 home runs and 80 runs batted in.

Milwaukee won the NL Central last season with a 95-67 record, but lost a NL Division Series against the Atlanta Braves in four games. The Brewers collectively batted .233 during the 2021 season, fourth worst in MLB.
