Report: Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs Agree To Kyle Tucker Trade

After days of speculation, the Houston Astros have agreed to trade outfielder Kyle Tucker.

According to multiple reports, the Astros are sending Tucker to the Chicago Cubs for a package that is headlined by Isaac Paredes. The talented infielder just had a .238 average with 19 homers and 90 RBI. Of course, he's not the only player heading back to Houston. The trade also includes right-hander Hayden Wesneski and promising third baseman Cam Smith. Wesneski appeared in 28 games for Chicago this past season, owning a 3.86 ERA while striking out 67 batters.

Tucker, a three-time All-Star, is set to be an unrestricted free agent next offseason. Since the Astros weren't confident about locking him up to a long-term contract, they sold while his price was incredibly high. There were multiple teams interested in his services, and rightfully so. The 2022 World Series champion just finished this season with a .289 batting average and 23 homers. Factor in his abilities in the outfield and you're talking about an all-around star.

The Yankees were reportedly interested in Tucker, but the Astros didn't like what they had to offer. According to a few insiders, Houston wanted Luis Gil in order to consider a deal with New York. It appears Brian Cashman was unwilling to part ways with the American League Rookie of the Year.

“I talked to someone with the Astros’ front office and was told the Yankees didn’t offer anything the Astros wanted,” a source told NJ.com. “Nothing. They think the Yankees have offered crap.”

With Tucker now in Chicago, it'll be interesting to see what the future has in store for Cody Bellinger. It's possible the Cubs will flip him elsewhere to recoup some assets.

Bellinger has been linked to the Yankees in the past, so maybe the two sides will discuss a trade. That wouldn't be a bad consolation prize for New York.

For now though, the Cubs have to feel good about landing Tucker. If they can work out an extension, he'll form a dynamic duo with Seiya Suzuki for years to come.
