Report: Indians trade Mike Clevinger to Padres

It sounds like Cleveland Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger is on the move.

According to Robert Murray, the Indians have traded Clevinger to the San Diego Padres

As for what's headed to Cleveland, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Indians have acquired right-hander Cal Quantrill, shortstop Gabriel Arias, outfielder Josh Naylor, catcher Austin Hedges, left-hander Joey Cantillo and shortstop Owen Miller.

Quantrill, 25, is 2-0 on the season with a 2.60 ERA, 18 strikeouts and a 1.327 WHIP in 17.1 innings pitched. Cantillo, 20, went 9-3 last season with a 1.93 ERA in 98 innings pitched as a member of San Diego's single-A affiliate. He's the Padres ninth-ranked prospect.

Arias, 20, averaged .302 at the plate last season with 75 RBI, 17 home runs and an .809 OPS as a member of Lake Elsinore of the California League -- he was San Diego's seventh-ranked prospect. Miller, 23, averaged .290 at the plate last season with 68 RBI's and 13 home runs with the Padres double-A affiliate. He was San Diego's 11th-ranked prospect.

Naylor, 23, has spent the 2020 campaign on the Padres roster, averaging .278 at the plate with four RBI's, one home run and a .732 OPS. This season with the Padres, Hedges was averaging .158 at the plate with six RBI and three home runs.

Clevinger has caused some problems in the Cleveland clubhouse since putting his teammates at risk for coronavirus infection, so it's not necessarily a surprise that he's being dealt. The right-hander reportedly was on "thin ice" with the organization, and at least one Indians player said he'd opt out of the season if Clevinger returned to the team.

Clevinger will be joining a rotation that includes Chris Paddack, Dinelson Lamet, Garrett Richards and Zach Davies.

This season, the right-hander is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA, 21 strikeouts and a 1.368 WHIP in 22.2 innings pitched.
