Report: Jacob deGrom Blocked Trade Away From Rangers

The Texas Rangers are believed to be sellers at the trade deadline, with even young players like Mackenzie Gore and Wyatt Langford being made available at the right price.

But not everyone is open to being dealt.

The Athletic is reporting that star pitcher Jacob deGrom, who signed with the Texas Rangers in free agency, invoked his no-trade clause to block a trade out of the franchise. The Rangers reportedly approached the veteran flamethrower about lifting his no-trade clause for a deadline move.

But deGrom, 38, said no.

While deGrom might be open to a move away from Texas at some point, he's not interested in being traded right now.

The former New York Mets star decided to stay put in Texas.

deGrom blocks trade out of Texas

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal broke the big news.

"The Texas Rangers approached right-hander Jacob deGrom about waiving his no-trade clause, but the pitcher told the team he wanted to remain with the club, people briefed on the conversations have told The Athletic," he reported.

"The Rangers awarded deGrom full no-trade protection when they signed him to a five-year, $185 million free-agent contract in Dec. 2022. He is under contract through 2027."

The Rangers are considering several big moves, including trades involving Corey Seager and Nathan Eovaldi, though no-trade clauses exist for those players, too.

"Seager currently can block deals to eight clubs. At the end of the season he gains full no-trade rights as a player with 10 years service, five consecutive with the same team. Eovaldi has a full no-trade clause," The Athletic added.

The MLB Trade Deadline is set for 6 p.m. E.T.
