Report: Mets' top choice for next president of baseball operations 'appears to be' Brewers GM Matt Arnold

The New York Mets are reportedly making progress in their search for their next team president of baseball operations.

Mike Puma of the New York Post had the details early Tuesday afternoon.

Arnold currently works under Milwaukee Brewers team president of baseball operations David Stearns. According to Puma, Arnold may have already received an offer.

"The source added it’s possible an offer has already been extended to the 42-year-old Arnold, whose previous experience includes a stint working in the Rays front office," Puma wrote. "There is some thought if Arnold takes the Mets job he will look to hire somebody working in the Rays’ front office as the general manager to work with him."

Puma noted that Stearns is currently under contract with Milwaukee and the Mets weren't granted permission to speak with him.

Among the other notable names who have spoken to the Mets in recent weeks have been Oakland Athletics executive vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane, as well as Theo Epstein, who was the vice president and then general manager of the Boston Red Sox and later the president of baseball operations for the Chicago Cubs. Both Beane and Epstein declined to be considered for the job. Earlier this week, San Francisco Giants GM Scott Harris withdrew his name from consideration as well.
