Report: Padres have 'engaged in trade talks' with Pirates regarding All-Star OF Bryan Reynolds

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds had a breakout year in his age-26 season in 2021, posting career-high numbers on offense and earning his first All-Star honor. His efforts have reportedly garnered strong interest this offseason from one particular National League West team.

Reynolds was selected by the San Franisco Giants in the second round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft before being traded with relief pitcher Kyle Crick and international bonus slot money in exchange for former NL MVP and five-time All-Star Andrew McCutchen and cash in January 2018. Reynolds made his big-league debut early in the 2019 campaign with the Pirates and had a productive rookie season, registering 16 home runs, 68 RBIs, 83 runs scored, 154 hits, 37 doubles and a .314/.377/.503 slash line.

The Vanderbilt product finished fourth in the NL Rookie of the Year voting that year, but like many other players, struggled in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Over 185 at-bats in 55 games, Reynolds posted seven home runs, 19 RBIs and just a .189/.275/.357 slash line.

The Baltimore, Md., native bounced back big time last year with career-highs in at-bats (559), games played (159), home runs (24), RBIs (90), runs scored (93), hits (169), walks (75), on-base percentage (.390), slugging percentage (.522) and OPS (.912). Reynolds also tied for the MLB-lead with eight triples and finished 11th in the NL MVP voting.

Since debuting with the Padres in 2019, Paddack has posted a 20-19 record with a 4.21 ERA and 1.26 WHIP and 310 strikeouts over 308 innings pitched and 61 games (60 starts). Weathers was selected by San Diego with the seventh overall pick in the 2018 draft and as a rookie in 2021, he went 4-7 with a 5.32 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 72 strikeouts over 94 2/3 innings pitched and 30 games (18 starts).
