Report: Royals All-Star OF Andrew Benintendi still on Mets' 'radar'

The New York Yankees may be ruling out a summer trade for All-Star Andrew Benintendi, but their crosstown rivals apparently are not.

According to the New York Post, while the Bronx Bombers still have to travel to Toronto for six more regular season games against the Blue Jays this year, the Mets do not have any contests north of the border. The only way Buck Showalter's club would have to play in Toronto this year would be if both teams advance to the World Series.

Entering play Thursday, Benintendi leads the Royals in batting average (career-high .317), on-base percentage (career-high .386), OPS (.786), hits (102) and walks (37), and he has played in a team-high 87 games as well. He's missed only one contest entering Kansas City's upcoming four-game road slate against the Blue Jays.

The 28-year-old outfielder was recently named as one of 10 Royals players who are unvaccinated and therefore ineligible to travel with the club to Canada.
