Report: Yankees interested in trading for All-Star slugger

The New York Yankees are expected to be buyers at the trade deadline as they fight to remain in the postseason race, and they reportedly have an All-Star slugger on their wish list.

The Yankees are one of the teams that have expressed interest in trading for Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

The Diamondbacks entered Saturday with a record of 48-50 and in fourth place in the NL West. If they are planning to sell ahead of the July 31 trade deadline, Suarez is easily one of their most sought-after pieces.

Suarez is batting .251 this season and ranks fourth in the majors in home runs (31) and RBI (78). He now has 30 or more homers in four of his last five seasons.

The Yankees could use a power-hitting third baseman, which is why they are viewed as a good fit for Suarez. They will face plenty of competition if they try to acquire the 34-year-old over the next week-plus.

Suarez reportedly wants to return to one of his former teams. The Diamondbacks will only be interested in a bidding war for their best power hitter should they decide to move on from him.
