Reports: Nationals signing 3B Jeimer Candelario
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals are in agreement on a one-year deal with third baseman Jeimer Candelario, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

Candelario, who turned 29 last week, batted .217 with a .633 OPS, 13 homers and 50 RBIs in 124 games with the Detroit Tigers in 2022.

It was a steep decline from the previous season, when he led the majors with 42 doubles and drove in a career-high 67 runs in 149 games for Detroit.

Candelario is a career .240/.322/.401 hitter with 66 homers, 126 doubles and 248 RBIs in 606 games for the Chicago Cubs (2016-17) and Tigers. The switch-hitter has also started games at first base and designated hitter.

Per the reports, he will earn $5 million plus up to $1 million in performance bonuses with Washington. Candelario earned $5.8 million after arbitration last season.
