Reports: RHP Michael Wacha agrees to deal with Padres
Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Padres have reached a deal with free agent right-hander Michael Wacha, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

The agreement is pending a physical.

The addition of Wacha helps bolster a starting rotation that features Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Blake Snell at the top. Wacha would be in the mix with Nick Martinez, Seth Lugo and Adrian Morejon to secure a back-end role.

Wacha, 31, went 11-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 23 starts with the Boston Red Sox in 2022. San Diego would be his fourth stop in four years after starring in St. Louis for seven seasons. He was a first-round pick (No. 19 overall) of the Cardinals in the 2012 draft.

Wacha is 74-50 lifetime with a 4.05 ERA in 225 career appearances (204 starts). He was a 17-game winner in 2015, earning his only All-Star nod. He was also the National League Championship Series MVP in 2013 with St. Louis.
