High-level Reds prospects competed in the first spring breakout game, as they soundly defeated the Rangers 4-1.
This game was headlined by No. 7 overall pick Rhett Lowder who pitched two perfect innings, finishing with two strikeouts.
“I just got there and tried to throw strikes and we were making plays so it wasn’t too bad,” Lowder said.
His fastball has been effective in the past, but he is primarily known for his breaking pitches and changeup.
“All four (pitches) were working," he said.
He acknowledged batting practice in big league camp helped him prepare.
“I tried to sit back and take in what those guys were doing and I mean they are all obviously super talented.”
Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts manager Jose Moreno had an interesting takeaway from his future double-a ace.
“Watching him in spring training you could tell he has a really good arm," Moreno said. "He’s a major league talent but just needs the reps.
“Hopefully we can for sure have him in Chattanooga for a short period of time and then send him to Cincinnati.”
