The Philadelphia Phillies made a trade on Thursday morning, completing a deal with the Texas Rangers to acquire a right-handed pitcher, Daniel Robert.
Robert, who looks to be part of a team that could use the pitching, especially in the bullpen, will hopefully be a difference maker for the Phillies eventually.
He’s done what he's needed to do throughout his young career after being selected in the 27th round of the 2021 MLB draft, making his debut for the Rangers during the 2024 campaign.
During his four appearances at the major league level, the right-hander has posted a 3.18 ERA and struck out six hitters in 5.2 innings.
He's been a minor league arm for much of his career, and was stocked away in Triple-A for the Rangers prior to being traded, tossing to the likes of a 1.54 ERA in six outings and 11.2 innings.
Speaking to reporters about the trade, skipper Rob Thomson made a promising announcement, saying that it looks like the Phillies got a decent arm and that he loves what his fastball has shown.
“We got what looks like a pretty good arm,” said Thomson before Thursday’s game, per Philly Nation. “Guys got a good fastball. Throws Strikes, good slider.”
It's never a bad idea to make small trades like this, as the Phillies sent a Single-A player, Enrique Segura, to complete the trade.
Even if Robert doesn't work out the way the Phillies are hoping for, it isn't like they had to move much in this deal.
At best, he could be a decent reliever for them, and there's plenty of value in that for a contending team.
