Rob Thomson Considering Exciting Phillies Decision With Top Prospect

One of the main issues for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2025 has been the outfield's lack of production. Whether it's Nick Castellanos, Brandon Marsh, Max Kepler, or Johan Rojas, the outfield hasn't been great for the Phillies.

Amid the team's questionable situation in the outfield, Phillies manager Rob Thomson teased a move the team could make to shake up their outfield. In an article from Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Thomson commented on a top prospect who's been rising the ranks: Justin Crawford.

"Playing great," Thomson said of Crawford. "Swinging the bat. He's been good." Thomson is keeping an eye on Crawford, and with how great he's been playing, Thomson believes there's a chance for an exciting move in the future.

When asked if the Phillies could call Crawford up at some point, Thomson provided an encouraging answer. "Oh yeah, absolutely."

The former 2022 first-round pick, and son of former MLB player Carl Crawford, Justin Crawford, has been steadily rising through the Phillies' farm system in recent years.

He's parked himself in Triple-A, and he's been incredible there. In 62 games in Triple-A, Crawford has 84 hits, 49 runs scored, 14 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 28 RBIs, 33 walks, 26 stolen bases, and 53 strikeouts.

He isn't a power hitter, but he's been an incredible hitter regardless, thanks to his hit speed and ability to make contact. Crawford is batting .332, with a .408 on-base percentage and a .435 slugging percentage.

In his 2025 season, Crawford has an .843 OPS and is one of the game's best speedsters. His hit tool is a huge reason why the Phillies' prospect has been rising in the rankings, and why Thomson is alluding to the Phillies bringing him up.

As a lefty batter, Crawford is more likely to take over for Marsh or Kepler when he's called up. The 21-year-old has been impressive throughout his entire Minor League career. But his 2025 production is pushing the envelope and could bring him to the Major Leagues soon.

With the Phillies' lackluster offense and the outfielders being among the worst in the league, calling up Crawford could help resolve the Phillies' issues and provide a spark to the offense.

Crawford has been incredible in Triple-A this season. Thomson's comments open the door to the Phillies bringing Crawford to the Major Leagues at some point this season.
