Rockies sign Kris Bryant to seven-year, $182 million deal

Kris Bryant has found a new home, one that will likely treat him — and his bat — well.

Bryant has agreed to a seven-year deal with the Rockies, as first reported by MLB Network's Jon Heyman. The deal is reportedly worth $182 million and contains a full no-trade clause.

The deal comes after Colorado emerged as a suitor for Bryant in recent days. As many of the major post-lockout free agent dominoes have yet to fall, the Rockies were able to hammer down a deal to bring Bryant to hitter-friendly Coors Field.

He moved all around the field last season with the Cubs and Giants, and will bring that same defensive flexibility to the Rockies in addition to likely earning some rest at designated hitter on occasion. Bryant can reliably play third base, first base, and in the outfield.

Bryant also will inject significant offensive firepower into the Rockies' lineup. He hit .265/.353/.481 last season with a 124 OPS+, meaning he was comfortably better than the league average (100). He contributed 3.3 wins above replacement and slugged 25 homers while logging 73 RBIs between the Cubs and Giants.

Chicago is where Bryant began his career back in 2015. He was named an All-Star in each of his first two seasons, and in 2016 won the league MVP award while leading the Cubs to their first World Series in 108 years. He made two more All-Star Games over the next five years before being traded to the Giants at last year's trade deadline.
