Blalock's career has gotten off to a strong start as he boasts a 2.92 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP through three appearances.
With that said, right-hander's underlying metrics suggest that regression is looming. Blalock possesses a 4.13 xERA and ranks in the bottom half of the league in xBA, average exit velocity and strikeout rate.
Following the rookie is one of the worst bullpens in baseball. Colorado's relief staff ranks last in ERA, 29th in FIP and last xFIP.
The good news for this pitching staff is that the Rockies are capable of putting up runs. Colorado ranks in the top half of the league in hits per game, BA, SLG and OPS.
Meanwhile, on the other side of this matchup, one of the best hitting teams in the league steps up to the plate. New York ranks in the top three in runs scored per game, OBP, SLG, OPS and home runs.
Run support will be necessary as Warren takes the mound for the Yankees. He is 0-1 through three starts this season with a fade-worthy 8.59 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.
Warren also ranks in the bottom half of the league in both barrel and hard-hit rate.
Even if the rookie is chased early, I'm not sure how much faith should be placed in New York's bullpen, which ranks in the bottom half of the league in both FIP and xFIP.
There is little reason to not like the over in this spot. Blalock and Warren both rank in the bottom half of the league in both barrel and hard-hit rate while carrying xFIPs north of 4.13.
Both bullpens also rank in the bottom half of the league in both FIP and xFIP. Meanwhile, both lineups rank in the top half in hits per game, BA, SLG and OPS.
Finally, the weather should help us out as the forecast calls for winds blowing out to left-center.
I'm going to pass on the moneyline. I have no interest in laying -270 on New York, and I definitely have no interest in backing Colorado.
I'm also going to pass on the run line. I like the Yankees at -1.5, but not at the current price.
I'm betting Over 9 in this game.
