The Los Angeles Angels were led by the managerial tandem of Ron Washington and Ray Montgomery in 2025. Washington began the year leading the way in his second season as manager, but had to step away from the team after 74 games due to a medical issue. Montgomery was the interim manager for the final 98 games of the season.
Washington went 36-38 this season, while Montgomery oversaw the slow end-of-season fadeout with a 36-52 record. The Angels missed the playoffs for the 11th consecutive season and finished under .500 — 72-90 — for the 10th straight year. Both of those are the longest streaks in baseball.
And because of that, Angels owner Arte Moreno has reportedly decided to not bring back either to manage the club in 2026, according to Sam Blum of The Athletic:
NEWS: Ron Washington and Ray Montgomery will not return as Angels manager in 2026, a source told @TheAthletic.
Still no confirmed information regarding Perry Minasian.
The Angels will have a new manager next year.

Washington had been hoping to return to manage the team next season once he was healthy, but the Angels have decided not to pick up the option on his contract. He finishes a two-year tenure with the Angels with an official record of 135-189, as Montgomery had an interim tag for his time with the team this season.
Washington’s .417 winning percentage is the worst among all Angels managers to complete at least one season with the team.
Moreno must now make a decision on a new manager, as well as what to do with Perry Minasian. Blum states that there is nothing confirmed about his status for the upcoming season.
Whoever the Angels hire to manage the team in 2026 will be Moreno’s sixth manager in nine seasons. Mike Scioscia’s last campaign was 2018, followed by Brad Ausmus in 2019, Joe Maddon from 2020-22, Phil Nevin in 2022 and 2023 and Washington in 2024 and 2025.
Here is the postseason picture for the 2025 MLB Playoffs, the Angels 11th consecutive year missing out.
