With his combination of power and speed, Ronald Acuna Jr. is quite possibly the most impactful player on the Atlanta Braves roster when healthy. But the 2023 National League MVP had a poor start to the 2026 campaign, although the Braves are having an outstanding 2026 season thus far. Still, Acuna put on a strong run over the past few weeks to improve his offensive production.
Therefore, the Atlanta Braves suffered a potentially crippling blow in Game 2 of their road series against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Ronald Acuna Jr. grounded out to second base in the top of the second inning when he pulled up halfway down first base, clutching his left hamstring. After an on-field examination by the trainer, he gingerly walked off into the dugout.
“We’re getting an MRI,” Braves manager Walt Weiss said after the game. “It didn’t look great, him coming off the field there, but we’re hoping maybe it’s some cramping and that type of thing. But that’s never good when we get an MRI.”

“We’ll see the severity of it, but I didn’t like the way it looked.”
Eli White replaced the five-time All-Star at right field. The Braves went on to beat the Rockies 9-1 in the game to take the series at Coors Field and extend their record to 24-10 for the season.
Atlanta Braves skipper Walt Weiss pondered the prospect of placing Ronald Acuna Jr. on the IL. The situation is certainly not ideal for the team moving forward, but he feels the Braves have the depth in their roster to cope with the loss.
“You never like to be challenged like this,” Weiss said. “He’s one of your best players and most talented players. If it happens, we’ll be OK. We’ve got lots of moving parts.”
After recovering from his dismal start to the season, Ronald Acuna is batting .248/.360/.376 with two home runs, seven stolen bases, nine RBIs, and a 108 OPS+.
