Ronald Acuna Jr. to undergo season-ending surgery after suffering torn ACL

One of Major League Baseball's biggest stars will miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

An MRI on Saturday revealed Atlanta Braves slugger Ronald Acuna Jr. suffered a complete tear of his right ACL. He will undergo season-ending surgery and is expected to be sidelined for at least nine months.

Acuna landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field to try to catch a line drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning of Saturday's 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins. The 23-year-old slammed into the outfield wall and hit the field in pain, grabbing his right knee.

Acuna was slated to start in the outfield for the National League in Tuesday's All-Star Game at Coors Field. San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado will replace him on the All-Star roster.

The two-time Silver Slugger finishes the 2021 campaign with a .283/.394/.596 slash line, 24 home runs and 52 RBI in 82 games.

The Braves, who are second in the NL East, will significantly miss Acuna as they try to overtake the division-leading New York Mets.
