Team Mexico advanced to the quarterfinals on the 2023 World Baseball Classic following a 10-3 win over Team Canada on Wednesday.  During the contest, Brewers slugger Rowdy Tellez collected three RBI, picking up a two-run single in the first inning before capping his day in loud style via a solo homer in the eighth inning.

In order to make it out of Pool C, Mexico earlier outslugged Team USA by a score of 11-5 and defeated Great Britain 2-1 in addition to their above-mentioned win over Canada.  The team's lone loss came during their opening match up against Colombia in which Luis Urias was charged with a brutal error in the 10th inning.

Throughout pool play, Tellez, Randy Arozarena, and Joey Meneses have all played big roles offensively for Mexico.  Tellez finished with a .353/.421/.588 slash line that included one home run and five RBI.  Arozareana had a .500 average with a 1.703 OPS and Meneses a 1.263 OPS.  These three players accounted for 20 RBI over four games.

Mexico's pitching staff includes MLBers Julio Urias, Tajuan Walker, Jose Urquidy, and Giovanny Gallegos, too, making them a tough out for the remainder of the WBC.

Looking ahead to the quarterfinals, Mexico will likely play the winner of Wednesday evening's Team Dominican Republic vs Team Peurto Rico game.
