Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez is not only a club legend, but he's still productive despite being past his prime. The 35-year-old came into Monday's bout with the Atlanta Braves slashing .253/.295/.459 with a team-high 18 homers and 62 RBI over 101 games.
Perez also entered the game slashing .338/.376/.763 with nine homers and 19 RBI in July. The nine-time All-Star's momentum continued on Monday, as he hit an RBI single in the first inning to put the Royals up 2-0.
However, Perez got hit in the elbow by a pitch in the third and was subbed out for backup catcher Freddy Fermin in the fifth. Kansas City later provided an update about the veteran's ailment via social media.
"Salvador Perez exited tonight's game with a left elbow contusion," the club announced.
Perez came into Monday with a career slash line of .266/.303/.459 as well as 291 homers and 978 RBI over 1,653 games. He also has a playoff slash line of .229/.275/.386 with six homers and 15 RBI over 37 games.

The Royals signed Perez for $65,000 in 2007, when he was 16 years old. They called him up to the big leagues in August 2011, and he went on to win World Series MVP in 2015. He also set the single-season MLB record for most homers by a catcher with 48 in 2021, which was tied for the most in baseball that year. He also led with 121 RBI.
Kansas City will play two more games against Atlanta before hitting the road to face the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins.
