Less than a year removed from leading the Florida Gators to their 14th appearance in the College World Series, Kansas City Royals No. 1 prospect Jac Caglianone is one step closer to making his MLB debut.

The team announced Sunday that Caglianone, MLB Pipe;ine's No. 10 overall prospect, is being promoted to Triple-A Omaha.

In 38 games with Northwest Arkansas this spring, Caglianone has dominated Double-A pitching, slashing .322/.394/.553 with nine home runs, eight doubles and leading the Texas League with 43 RBI.

Despite starring as a two-way player during his time in Gainesville, he's been used primarily as a position player in the minors, logging most of his time this season at first base. He's also made seven starts in the outfield for Northwest Arkansas, six of which have been in right field.

“We’re not in any rush to get him to Triple-A,” Royals general manager J.J. Picollo said just two weeks ago.

“Not saying it hasn’t been discussed. It’s just – there’s no timetable on it. We like what he’s doing. We’re happy with what he’s doing. We’re trying to allow him to develop properly as a hitter. When this offense settles in, that might be the proper time for him to come up."

The Royals (26-22) currently sit in fourth place in what is a loaded AL Central Division. Despite their record, Kansas City's offense has been one of the least productive in MLB this season, ranking last in home runs (30), and 27th in both runs scored (159) and RBI (157). Adding a hitter like Caglianone to their everyday lineup could be exactly what the big league club needs.

For now, Caglianone will begin his stint with Omaha on Tuesday night, when the Storm Chasers visit Salt Lake, the Los Angeles Angels Triple-A affiliate.
