Bobby Witt Jr. remains the most important piece of the Kansas City Royals’ future. Entering Monday, the Royals (75-75) playoff hopes are slim with a six-game deficit for the final AL wild card spot and just two weeks left in the regular season.
Despite most likely missing out on back-to-back postseason appearances, the franchise still has a superstar on its roster to build around for the next decade. Witt has followed up a 2024 season in which he finished runner-up in AL MVP voting (losing to Aaron Judge) with another excellent year at shortstop. Over 145 games, the 25-year-old has posted a .292 batting average, .350 on-base percentage, .851 OPS, 22 home runs and 79 RBIs.
Witt’s excellence extends beyond the plate, as he also remains one of the league’s best defensive shortstops and a threat on the basepaths, logging 30+ steals in back-to-back seasons.
As Witt continues to grow as a player, his list of personal achievements has expanded.
Throughout his four-year career, Witt has collected two All-Star selections, a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger Award, with more likely coming. During Kansas City’s off day on Monday, it was announced that Witt may potentially grow his list of accomplishments for his efforts off the field, as he was named the Royals’ nominee for the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award.
The team wrote, “Representing the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, both on and off the field. We are proud of our 2025 Roberto Clemente Award nominee, Bobby Witt Jr.”

Witt has made a major impact in the Kansas City community, which he has fully embraced, and has committed himself to winning a championship for the city. He has taken responsibility for inspiring the next generation of baseball players and fans, and continues to do his best encouraging youth to participate in baseball and softball as MLB's first ever Play Ball ambassador. The shortstop's efforts have continued to increase engagement in the sport so that it sticks around for the long run.
Witt has also worked to increase literacy rates in the Kansas City metro area. He makes frequent visits to the Dream Factory, which attempts to grant the requests of children suffering from chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
Witt also supports organizations that are working to fight and spread awareness of ALS.
While Witt is proud of his play on the diamond, he has undoubtedly supported his community as they have supported him.
