Rushing Max Scherzer back from injury proves costly for Texas Rangers

Several things are true about Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer.
He is a three-time Cy Young winner, one-time World Series champ and has even thrown two no hitters in the same season (2015). He is also 39 years old and had not pitched in an MLB game since Sept. 10 due to injury.

Those last facts showed Wednesday and proved to be the Achilles' heel for the Rangers in Game 3 of the ALCS from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

From the second inning and on, the Houston Astros bats awoke, scoring five runs on Scherzer through four innings en route to grabbing a 8-5 win, their first of the ALCS to avoid a 3-0 series deficit and ending a seven-game postseason winning streak for the Rangers.

Prior to Wednesday, the Astros offense had just four runs total in their two losses to the Rangers. in Game 3, the team erupted for eight runs. It would have been nine had Rangers center fielder Leody Taveras not made an incredible play in the sixth inning.

While the Rangers fought back, the deficit proved to be to great for them to overcome.

The Astros will attempt to even the series while the Rangers will look to grab a commanding 3-1 series lead in Game 5. Worth noting is Houston's road record (51-30) this season, which was remarkably better than its home record (39-42). The Astros are 3-0 on the road in the postseason and have won seven straight dating back to the regular season.

The battle for bragging rights in Texas continues when the two face off Thursday from Globe Life Field.
