While the Baltimore Orioles have been scuffling through this MLB season, designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn has been a spotlight. O'Hearn's productivity at the plate has been recognized by MLB All-Star Game voters.

The Orioles will be represented in the Midsummer Classic's American League lineup, being voted into the DH role. For O'Hearn, he was overjoyed after receiving the news on Wednesday, July 2.

“I’ve been trying not to get my hopes up for the last month or so as all of this has been going on,” O’Hearn said, according to MLB.com. “To finally get the news today, to get to be a starter, I mean, I’m over the moon.”

Take a look at O'Hearn's stat line so far this season. Before the Orioles' 6-0 series finale loss against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday night, O'Hearn was hitting .295 with 10 doubles, 11 home runs, 30 RBIs and an .854 OPS over 72 games.

Ryan O'Hearn has been steady influence around Baltimore Orioles teammates

Throughout this season, O'Hearn has been a leader in the Baltimore clubhouse. He's been doing his best to make sure that his teammates keep a level head despite the bad record this season.

“It’s really cool to watch him do his thing and really cool to see where he is now through the journey that he’s had through baseball,” shortstop Gunnar Henderson said. “There’s no one more deserving than him.”

O'Hearn has gone through a career renaissance in Baltimore. He's been able to turn around any shortcomings in his game, both at the plate and in the field when playing out there.

“I spent a lot of time just trying to keep my head above the water in the big leagues and just stick around as long as I possibly could,” O’Hearn said. “To be able to say, ‘I'm a Major League All-Star?’ I'm blown away.”

O'Hearn can say, with pride, that he's an All-Star in the eyes of MLB voters and Baltimore fans, too.
