San Diego Padres Roster Moves 8/20/2025

The San Diego Padres play the third game of their four-game series against the San Francisco Giants tonight. The Padres dropped the first game of the series 4-3 and won the second game 5-1. The Padres are 10-7 in August, averaging 4.6 runs per game while allowing 3.7 runs per game. They sit two games back of the Dodgers for first in the National League West entering tonight’s play. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Padres recalled left-handed pitcher JP Sears from Triple-A El Paso. Sears will start tonight’s game against the Giants. To make room for Sears, the Padres optioned right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio to Triple-A El Paso.

JP Sears

Searshas made one start for the Padres since they acquired him at the trade deadline. He suffered a loss in that outing, giving up five runs on ten hits in ten innings; he walked one and struck out four. In his lone start at El Paso, he got the win, going five innings, giving up two runs on six hits; he walked one and struck out three. In 22 starts with the Athletics, he went 7-9 with a 4.95 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts in 111 innings. He’s made 104 big league appearances with 98 of those coming as starts. He is 29-40 with a 4.53 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 450 strikeouts in 539 innings.

Ron Marinaccio

Marinaccio, this season in three games with the Padres, hasn’t allowed a run on two hits. He has walked one and struck out five in 4.2 innings. In 35 games at Triple-A, he is 6-0 with a 4.91 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and 44 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. In 104 career big league games, he is 6-5 with a 3.09 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 142 strikeouts in 119.1 innings.
