Report: Giants 'prepared to spend whatever it takes' for Aaron Judge
Oct 22, 2022; Bronx, New York, USA; New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge (99) reacts after striking out in the sixth inning against the Houston Astros during game three of the ALCS for the 2022 MLB Playoffs at Yankee Stadium Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco Giants reportedly 'prepared to spend whatever it takes' for Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge hit 62 home runs this season for the New York Yankees. Have you heard?

The 30-year-old slugger took the sports world by storm with his historic campaign from the plate this season. His pursuit of the American League home run title even cut into college football games, which shows you just how big of a superstar Judge really was this season for the Yankees.

The only problem for New York? Judge bet on himself at the beginning of this year and didn't sign any long-term contracts with the Yankees. He's not set to become arguably one of the biggest free agents in MLB history, and there's a good chance he ends up wearing something other than pinstripes next season and beyond.

There's a good chance he ends up all the way across the country, actually. That is, if the latest reporting from NJ Advance Media is to be believed.

"The Giants have targeted Judge and are prepared to spend whatever it takes, a person with knowledge of the Giants’ thinking told NJ Advance Media after meeting with members of the franchise’s ownership group," Randy Miller wrote on Tuesday. "The person, who isn’t authorized to speak on behalf of the team, was granted anonymity."

Miller also passed on a quote from his source.

“Judge is at the top of the Giants list and they won’t be underbid,” the person said. “If they miss out, it won’t be because of money.”

Money talks in baseball, and it's ironic because it's normally the Yankees' money that's doing the talking.

The Giants have long been one of the best franchises in MLB, though, and they do have a rabid fanbase. Perhaps they don't have the nation-wide interest that the Yankees do, but you best believe college football will be interrupted once again if Judge heads out west and continues to mash the baseball at a historic pace.

He bet on himself and now he gets the chance to cash it. There are likely a ton of factors at play, but if money talks and Judge is listening -- it seems like a good bet that he'll end up with the Giants in 2023 and beyond.
