It’s proven not to be the biggest deal who ends up starting the game for the Chicago White Sox , but it’s still worth noting. Sean Newcomb will be taking the bump to start Game 3 of the ALDS.

Everyone knows what’s on the line. With the White Sox heading to Chicago holding onto a 2-0 lead, they could close this one out and finish the sweep right here.
So far in this series, the pitching has been very good, and Newcomb looks to help contribute to that.
The White Sox have a very young roster, but Newcomb is a veteran at 33 years old. Newcomb pitched 90.1 innings for the White Sox this year, and his stats were very solid.
I wouldn’t pay too much attention to a 2-5 record, but more importantly, Newcomb had a 3.09 ERA, 1.185 WHIP, and 2.0 WAR. Now, it is worth noting that Newcomb only started in six games for the White Sox this season, and of 613.2 career innings, he only has 71 starts.
We’ve seen Newcomb pitch just 8.1 innings against the Cleveland Guardians this year, with a solid 3.24 ERA, seven hits, seven walks, and eight strikeouts. These certainly aren’t the best numbers, but to be fair, Anthony Kay had some very good stats against Cleveland this year, and he ended up getting pulled early in Game 2.
Given that Newcomb has been solid this season, and this isn’t necessarily a must-win game for the White Sox, it makes sense to let him start this one.
