Leody Taveras had spent the majority of his MLB career with the Texas Rangers, even being a part of their World Series-winning team. But the outfield was put on waivers this week, with the Seattle Mariners picking him up on Tuesday.

Taveras, hitting .241 with one home run and eight RBI, will now call T-Mobile Park in Seattle as his Major League home.

The Mariners hope that Taveras can fortify their outfield situation. He's mostly played as a centerfielder throughout his time up in the Big Leagues. Taveras also has six stolen bases on the season, too.

Seattle wasn't through making moves after Taveras. The Mariners also activated second baseman-infielder-outfielder Dylan Moore from the injured list and designated Luis F. Castillo for assignment, according to MLB.com.

Moore activated from injured list

Moore has been out of action since April 24 due to right hip inflammation. He's hitting .286 with six home runs and five steals in 23 games. Moore also has five stolen bases to his credit.

Castillo had made two starts for the Mariners against the San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros, respectively. At Triple-A Tacoma, Castillo was 0-1 with a 5.02 ERA, allowing five walks while striking out 12. He allowed eight earned runs in 14.1 innings of work. In his career, Castillo has spent time in the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers and Mariners.

Taveras, who hails from Tenares, Dominican Republic, has been in six MLB seasons with the Rangers. In that time, he's put together a .240 batting average with 39 homers, 77 doubles and 12 triples. Taveras also has 72 total stolen bases with a .661 OPS.

Look for Taveras to not only add speed to the Mariners' offense, but be a trustworthy hand in the outfield.
