Seattle Mariners Catcher Cal Raleigh has continued to impress this season. He hit his 40th home run last night against the Los Angeles Angels. That put him in rarefied air. He became the first switch-hitter in league history to have 40+ home runs before the end of July. He also tied MLB legend Mickey Mantle for the most home runs by a switch-hitter in his team’s first 105 games of a season.
Raleigh has been on a historic pace this year. He is leading the league in home runs, second in RBI, third in Slugging Percentage, and third in OPS. He also won the Home Run Derby earlier this month. Will the catcher keep performing at such a high level?
Cal Raleigh is both the first catcher and the first switch-hitter in @MLB HISTORY with 40+ HR before the end of July.

Raleigh signed a six-year $105 million contract extension in March. With the way he has played in 2025, that deal has been a massive bargain. The catcher is improving off a strong 2024 campaign. He finished 12th in AL MVP voting. He also won a Gold Glove and a Platinum Glove.
He has upped the ante in 2025. He has the second-best American League MVP odds behind New York Yankees star Aaron Judge. With the injury to Judge, the star catcher can be the AL MVP favorite once the slugger returns to the diamond.
Raleigh and the Seattle Mariners return to the diamond this afternoon for the final game of their series against the Angels. If the catcher can keep it up, he could be named MVP in a few months.
