The Mariners have acquired the contract of the 30-year-old Jacques from Triple-A Tacoma, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. Jacques started the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a minor league deal. However, with the Seattle designating Will Klein and later agreeing to a deal with the Dodgers, Jacques was heading to Seattle as part of the return swap.
So far in 32 innings pitched this year (26 appearances), he has a 2-1 record with an ERA north of six and a WHIP of 1.66. There are some positives that are found deeper within, as he has an impressive 58.3% ground ball rate and a 7.9% walk rate.
Hancock, 26, has had a slew of games that have not impressed, as he suffered losses in his last three starts. The right-hander currently has a record of 3-5, posting a 5.47 ERA in 77 innings pitched and a WHIP of 1.44.
The Mariners will most likely target southpaw help come deadline time, but in the meantime, the M's will put their chips on Jacques being a secure lefty for their starting rotation until deals could transpire come the end of July. Jacques still has a minor league option that the M's will monitor closely and make moves accordingly.
