The Mariners have already opened the doors to making moves this trade deadline, as on July 24, Seattle acquired Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks, but there are still some places of interest that the Mariners would love to improve on.
It is no secret that the Seattle Mariners have a bullpen train of dominant arms with the likes of Andrés Muñoz and Matt Brash leading the charge on that front. But with this years trade deadline market heating up more than ever with high-end relievers, the Mariners should and will be hunting aggresivley to add another reliever.
Names that jump off the page of high-end relievers available on the market include: Ryan Helsley of the St. Louis Cardinals, Jhoan Duran of the Minnesota Twins, Griffin Jax of the Minnesota Twins, and Seth Halvorsen of the Colorado Rockies.
With big name clubs such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, and the Philadelphia Phillies, just to name a few, that are highly interested in Helsley's services, the market for the 31-year-old right hander will be one to keep an eye on.
Despite all the heavy competition, Helsley would highlight the trade deadline if he gets dealt, especially if the M's have the final say and acquire the righty .
The Oklahoma native currently owns a flat 3 ERA across 36 innings pitched and 41 punchouts. He also holds opponents to a .259 batting average, along with an OBP percentage of .327.
Duran and Jax of the Twins have also been on many teams' want lists as of late, and rightfully so. Duran currently owns a 1.86 ERA across 48 1/3 innings pitched and established a WHIP of 1.13. Jax, on the other hand, could provide length for Seattle, as he has a flat 4 ERA through 45 innings pitched.
Halvorsen, the hard-throwing righty from Colorado, is a name that sticks out when you look at the current landscape of the Rockies' bullpen. Even though the numbers don't look pretty, displaying a 4.89 ERA across 38 2/3 innings pitched and 10 saves, the 25-year-old can be a right fit for Mariner's bullpen that would love another right-hander.
Time will tell what Seattle's plans are for the trade deadline, but with the deadline only three days away, the implications of Seattle shaking up the landscape to acquire high-end reliever help for a final push to the playoffs do not seem bleak.
