If you looked at this Seattle Mariners team in the offseason, you would not expect them to be leading the American League West as we approach the end of the first quarter of the season.
With their 22-14 record, they are doing just that and more. Along with leading the division by three games over the Athletics, the Mariners also have the second-best record in the American League, and the fourth-best in MLB.
It has come on the strength of their current streak of nine-straight series victories, a mark they extended with their win Wednesday over the Athletics.

The goal in baseball, as in all sports, is to win more games than you lose. If you can do that successfully, you put yourself in a strong position for the postseason. And if you can win more series than you lose, it's even better.
For more context, Seattle has had 12 different series to this point in the 2025 campaign. Winning nine in a row is no easy feat, but it is one they have accomplished.
This stretch dates back to their three-game set with the Houston Astros from April 7 through April 9, and includes a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers and a two-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels.

The schedule does get tougher over the next couple of weeks. After the next series with the Toronto Blue Jays, the Mariners host the New York Yankees, who hold the third-best record in the American League, followed by a trip to take on the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, who hold the third-best record in MLB.
It has been a fantastic start to the year for Seattle, and if the M's can continue to win series at this rate, there may be a postseason berth in their future.
