Seattle Mariners Slip Down In Latest MLB Power Rankings

Going through an extended period of losing has not helped the Seattle Mariners maintain a solid footing in the latest MLB Power Rankings. The Mariners slipped from the No. 12 spot to No. 14 in the newest data.

Catcher Cal Raleigh has been mashing the ball so far this season. His 26 home runs lead all MLB hitters, two ahead of New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge heading into Monday's action.

Raleigh has connected on 11 homers in his past 17 games, showing that he, alone, is the Mariners' power source.

If Seattle had another Raleigh in their lineup, then they might have done better. But they need more production from players like shortstop Julio Rodriguez in order to establish some dominance among American League teams.

Losing streak did not help Seattle Mariners maintain AL West leader's spot

Yet a five-game losing streak, along with losing 10 of 15 games at one point, sent Seattle down not only in the MLB Power Rankings from MLB.com but also from the top spot in the AL West Division standings.

Right-hander George Kirby gave the Mariners a much-needed boost on Sunday, recording 14 strikeouts as Seattle stopped the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 to stop their five-game losing skid.

Seattle needs its starting pitching to simply pick up the pace. The Mariners have a history of being a streaky team, whether that's winning or losing. Due to this nature, Mariners manager Dan Wilson needs to harness that winning edge a little more.

The bottom line is that Seattle must get back into a winning mindset. The Mariners know how to win. They've done it a lot before. Now, it's time to put up or shut up as the MLB season enters into the long summer months.
