The Atlanta Braves’ nightmare start to 2025 continued Wednesday night. The Braves were looking to avoid a sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they seemed primed to do so. Atlanta jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Dodgers methodically erased that lead.

After tying the game at five in the eighth inning, the Dodgers entered the ninth with a chance to walk it off, and their $700 million man delivered. Shohei Ohtani hit a walk-off solo home run off Braves reliever Raisel Iglesias to send Atlanta to a disastrous 0-7 start.

The Braves seemed poised to get in the win column Wednesday night, as their offense finally broke through. Atlanta scored just nine runs in its first six games, so scoring five runs in the first two innings Wednesday was a good sign. But the Braves found a new way to lose in heartbreaking fashion.

Amid Atlanta’s 0-7 start, its fans have been reeling. The Braves have made seven straight postseason appearances, so their fans are not used to being in the basement of the NL East. What initially started as frustration and anger for fans has quickly turned to sarcastic humor to cope.

One Braves fan took to X to poke fun at Atlanta’s recent purchase of office space near Truist Park. The Braves’ announcement of the purchase was widely scrutinized, as they chose to share the news during their disastrous start. The post summed up how many fans felt after Wednesday’s loss.

Humor is probably the best option for Braves fans at this point, as Atlanta faces an uphill battle to salvage 2025. No MLB team has ever made the postseason after an 0-7 start, so the odds are stacked against Atlanta to reach an eighth consecutive postseason.

The Braves have a much-needed off day Thursday after a brutal west coast trip to begin the season. Atlanta will then host the Miami Marlins for a weekend series, which could be an opportunity to get right. The Braves have owned the Marlins in recent years, as they hold a 42-22 record against Miami in the past four seasons. The young Marlins are off to a surprising 4-3 start in 2025.

Atlanta will look to give its fans some hope with a series win this weekend. While history suggests the Braves have no shot at a playoff run, they have to start somewhere, and beating a division rival would be a good place to do so.
