Shohei Ohtani makes history yet again in 2023

Another game, another accomplishment for Los Angeles Angels two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani after the team's 4-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night.

Pitching six innings with five strikeouts and one unearned run allowed, Ohtani recorded his 1oth win of the 2023 season on the mound. That 10th victory put him in a class of his own, becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 40 home runs and win 10 games on the mound in the same season.

A feat that will be hard to replicate, Ohtani figures to be alone with this accomplishment for the foreseeable future.

Ohtani also extended his scoreless streak to 19.1 innings pitched since his last earned run allowed, which includes a complete game shutout on the road against the Detroit Tigers on July 27.

He has been limited in his starts since the complete game due to a lingering injury but looks like he is back to his dominant self on the mound.

He figures to set a few other MLB first's before the season ends with the pace he has been on, and barring injury he will surely end up having one of the greatest single-season performances in the history of baseball.

With the Angels spiraling out of the playoff picture despite being buyers at the trade deadline, Ohtani's strong showing on the mound was much needed to help keep them within striking distance, but the team will need some help along the way if it really wants a chance at the playoffs in 2023.

Less than 50 games remain in the regular season, and with Ohtani due to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, the Angels have to wonder if they made the right decision to hold on to him with the potential he leaves to another team with nothing major in return.
