The Chicago Cubs wrapped up a series victory on Saturday, but were looking for a series sweep on Sunday. Regardless of the outcome, a massive loss occurred on the Cubs' roster. In the sixth inning, starting pitcher Shota Imanaga left the game with an apparent leg injury when trying to cover first base on a double play attempt. Later reports from Taylor McGregor confirmed that Imanaga left with a hamstring strain in his left leg.

Upon Imanaga's departure, the Milwaukee Brewers scored four runs and took a 4-0 lead in the inning. A cold Julian Merryweather struggled mightily out of the bullpen, including throwing a wild pitch that led to the first run of the game.
Imanaga's injury could result in a trip to the injured list. If so, the Cubs will need another starting pitcher to cover for a few trips through the rotation. There are two options that make the most sense. RHP Chris Flexen is one of the options, having been recalled recently to serve as a long-relief option out of the bullpen, and RHP Cade Horton, who pitched a brilliant game on Sunday for Triple-A Iowa.
Many fans will likely chime for Horton's promotion, especially since his next start aligns with the potential opening left by Imanaga. That said, Flexen pitched brilliantly as a starter in Triple-A as well, posting a 1.16 ERA with 21 strikeouts and 23.1 innings of work over five starts.
Imanaga will certainly be evaluated further when the team returns to Chicago on Sunday evening. Prior to the start of the three-game set with the San Francisco Giants on Monday, there should be an update on Imanaga including his status for the near future.
