Freddie Freeman continued to demonstrate a swing that appears plenty ready for Opening Day, and it helped propel the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Dodgers did not have a baserunner until Shohei Ohtani led off the fourth inning with a flare single into center field. Teoscar Hernández followed that by grounding into a double play, but Freeman then broke up the scoreless tie with his second solo home run in as many games.

Freeman played four innings at first base prior to coming out of the game. It was his first start in the field after appearing in two Cactus League contests as the designated hitter.

Freeman expects to be in the Dodgers lineup for the Tokyo Series but has conceded he will need to tape and manage his surgically repaired right ankle at least through the All-Star break.

Tyler Glasnow threw 22 pitches (16 strikeouts) over two-plus innings. The lone hit he allowed was a leadoff double in the third inning.

Dodgers Minor League pitcher Nicolas Cruz stranded the inherited runner to give Glasnow a scoreless start in his second outing of the spring.

Kirby Yates wasn’t able to protect the Dodgers’ lead upon entering the fifth inning as he retired just two of six batters. Yates was removed after allowing an RBI infield single that tied the game.

Alex Vesia also ran into trouble, beginning with a two-out single in the sixth inning. Vesia then walked the next two batters to load the bases and was taken out of the game. Sean Linan became the third Dodgers Minor League pitcher to strand at least one inherited runner.

That proved key as it eventually led to Teoscar Hernández hitting a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Dodgers then put together a three-run seventh inning that was capped off by an RBI double by Josue De Paula.

Blake Treinen struck out the side in the seventh inning.

Dodgers split-squad game

Over against the Athletics at Hohokam Stadium, James Outman and David Bote combined to drive in four runs in the Dodgers’ 8-4 win.
