Struggling Brewers offense continues to plummet in ugly May stretch

Milwaukee's offensive struggles continued in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Cleveland, as the Brewers suffered their second consecutive shutout, stretching their scoreless streak to 19 innings.

The Brewers offense has sputtered in May, scoring just 25 runs in 12 games — an average of 2.08 per contest.

For the second time in four weeks, Pat Murphy has gathered the group for a postgame meeting amid a skid.

“We’re not playing with a ton of confidence,” he said told reporters before heading in. “We have a bunch of guys just not at their best right now.”

Second-year manager Pat Murphy is still searching for the spark to get Milwaukee back on track. As a team, the Brewers have posted just a .177/.248/.276 slash line in their 12 games in May.

"We were off to such a great start last year and we never had to worry, you know what I mean? I'm just saying we were off and running... and things felt good. These young guys were believing and it was fun," Murphy said, per MLB.com's Adam McCalvy. "Now we're trying to repeat that and we've had some big losses off the team and we've had some really adverse things go against us, whether it's calls that went against us, whether it's injuries, we can go on and on. ... [Pitching injuries] isn't the issue right now. We've got to get the heart of the order producing."

After Murphy's postgame meeting with the team, first baseman Rhys Hoskins and outfielder Jackson Chourio spoke about the Brewers' ongoing struggles.

As May reaches its midpoint, the Brewers must find solutions to fix their struggling offense after the loss dropped them to fourth place in the NL Central.
