Survey Reveals Ominous Outlook for Cardinals Playoff Hopes

The St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the best teams in baseball over the last month. They’ve completely turned around their season by winning 17 of their last 22 games and now sit seven games above .500. Despite the recent success, though, the majority of fans still aren’t banking on there being postseason baseball in St. Louis in 2025.

A recent survey conducted by MLB Trade Rumors.com, asked fans to weight in on whether the redbirds would make the 2025 postseason or not. It received over 4,200 votes and nearly 65% of fans who voted, feel the Cardinals fall short of the postseason for the third straight year.

The Cardinals are currently 31-24 and tied with the Giants for the final NL Wild Card spot. They still sit three games behind the Cubs for first place in the NL Central.

FanGraphs currently projects the Cardinals to win 84 games, giving them a 38% chance of making the playoffs and a 20% chance of winning their division.

The site predicts the Phillies, Cubs and Dodgers as the three NL division winners, with the Mets, Braves and Padres occupying the three wild card spots. Despite the Braves currently being three games below .500, FanGraphs still gives them the fifth-best playoff odds in the National League.

Even with the ominous playoff outlook, the Cardinals are still heavily outperforming preseason expectations. Coming into 2025, St. Louis was given a 23% chance to make the postseason. That number dipped all the way down to just 10% on May 3, before the team rattled off a nine-game win streak.

The biggest question mark for the Cardinals is whether or not the recent pitching success is sustainable. Since May 4, Cardinals pitchers have combined for a National League-best 2.82 ERA. While the offense has been great, the starting pitching has been the team’s biggest difference-maker thus far.
