Suspensions handed out following Nationals-Red Sox brawl

Multiple suspensions and fines were given out Thursday afternoon following a brawl between the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals on June 30.

The incident started on after Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli struck out Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras. Cavalli told Contreras to “sit down boy” which then led to Contreras confronting Cavalli before the benches cleared and a brawl ensued.

In total, four players were suspended. Cavalli and Contreras were each given seven games. Nationals pitcher Mike Mikolas was suspended five games, while Red Sox outfielder Nate Eaton got three. All players were given undisclosed fines. The suspensions will begin tomorrow unless they are appealed.
