Tennessee Vols LHP Liam Doyle is expected to be at least a top 10 selection in the upcoming 2025 MLB Draft (July 13-14).
The latest 2025 MLB mock draft from The Athletic's Keith Law, in fact, has Doyle getting drafted by the Los Angeles Angels with the No. 2 overall selection (they have high school shortstop Ethan Holiday going No. 1 overall to the Washington Nationals).
The Angels selected former Vols RHP Ben Joyce in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft (Joyce made his MLB debut in 2023). Los Angeles selected former Vols infielder Christian Moore in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft (Moore is currently with the Double-A Rocket City Pandas).
From The Athletic: Everyone thinks the Angels will take a college player and attempt to move him quickly to the big leagues, as they did with Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel and seemed set to do with Christian Moore before he had some contact issues in Double A. There's been more smoke around them taking one of the two college lefties, as both appear likely to be able to throw in the big-league bullpen in the second half of this season, if the Angels wanted them to do so. All that said, they've been heavy on Hernandez recently too.
Law actually noted last month that some MLB scouts see Doyle as a reliever longterm due to his odd delivery.
"The delivery is funky, and his arm is somewhat late relative to his front leg, which may be why his slider is his worst pitch and is definitely why I have heard plenty of concerns from scouts that he might be a reliever in the long run because of how the arm works," wrote Law.

Despite the concerns from some scouts, the upside that Doyle possesses will likely be too tempting for teams to pass up in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
