Tennessee Vols 2024 signee Mike Matthews, a five-star wide receiver, received an impressive honor this weekend.
Matthews, who joined Tennessee for Citrus Bowl practices in December, was named the offensive MVP of the Polynesian Bowl on Friday after helping lead Team Makai to a 28-17 win over Team Mauka.
It's the second straight year that a Tennessee signee has earned Polynesian Bowl offensive MVP honors. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava was named the offensive MVP of the event a year ago.
Matthews caught two passes for 44 yards and a touchdown in the Polynesian Bowl on Friday.

Matthews, who played at Parkview High School with 2023 New York Mets first round draft pick Colin Houck (Houck was Matthews' quarterback at Parkview), was rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 5 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia. He was also rated as the No. 20 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.
The Georgia native is expected to compete for immediate playing time as a true freshman for the Vols next fall.
