The Texas Rangers are looking to make a change before things get out of hand this season.
They're 17-18 and fourth in the AL West. Before beating the Seattle Mariners, 8-1, on Sunday, the Rangers were riding a four-game losing skid, and they had lost seven of their last eight.
Part of the problem for the Rangers has been the offense. Entering Monday, they are second to last in all of MLB in runs scored with just 113. To put it in perspective, the Chicago Cubs are first with 208.
Texas fired offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker on Sunday. In a corresponding move, the Rangers have hired former big leaguer Bret Boone as their new hitting coach.

Notably, Boone has never coached at the MLB level. He had plenty of experience in the league, though.
In 14 seasons, he hit an average of .266 with 252 home runs and 1,021 RBI. He played for the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins.
He never played in Texas, but he does have a connection to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, who coached him with the Padres in 2000. Also, Boone is the older brother of New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone
Boone was a three-time MLB All-Star and a two-time Silver Slugger. The Rangers are clearly hoping that some of what he was able to do at the plate will rub off on their players.
They do have a young superstar on their hands in Wyatt Langford, who can certainly learn from Boone. He's hitting .297 this season with six home runs, 13 RBI and an OPS of .921.
