Texas Rangers Starting Pitcher Jacob deGrom accomplished something on Monday he had never accomplished in his illustrious career. Today against the Toronto Blue Jays was the first time he did not strike out a batter in his 229 career starts.
Even though he did not strike out a batter today, he still pitched well. deGrom surrendered two earned runs over 5.1 innings of work. This start raised his season ERA to 2.42. That is the 12th-best in Major League Baseball. Unfortunately, he was let down by his offense on Memorial Day. He walked away with the loss as the Texas Rangers were bested 2-1 by the Toronto Blue Jays. How will deGrom fare in his next start?

deGrom is one of the best pitchers of his generation, and looked to be on a Hall of Fame trajectory. That was until injuries derailed the last few seasons of his career. He has not pitched a full season, outside of a COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, since 2019. He has fortunately been able to remain healthy in 2025.
deGrom is a two-time Cy Young Award winner, Rookie of the Year, and has other top 10 finishes in Cy Young voting and National League MVP. The former Cy Young Award winner has turned back the clock this season with the Texas Rangers. That should cause excitement for Rangers and strike fear in the opponent.
His next scheduled start is on June 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Even though he pitched well today, he will look to strike out his share of Cardinals hitters the next time he toes the slab.
