The '300-strikeout MLB seasons' quiz

Happy 38th birthday to 11-time MLB All-Star, three-time Cy Young winner, five-time ERA title-holder and three-time World Series champion, Clayton Kershaw!

Kershaw spent his entire 18-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and for much of it, was known as an incredible pitcher who never delivered in the postseason. From 2009-17, he posted the lowest ERA in all of baseball four times and the lowest in the NL five times, eclipsed 200 strikeouts seven times and in 2014 pulled off the rare double of taking home Cy Young and MVP honors in the same campaign.

Despite his dominance in his prime he didn’t get a championship until 2020, but he closed out his career with three rings in his final five seasons despite a much more limited role in 2025 and not pitching at all in the 2024 postseason.

Kershaw announced his retirement at the end of the 2025 MLB season, but he was part of the 2026 World Baseball Classic team that fell to Venezuela in the championship game.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Kershaw is one of just 30 pitchers in MLB’s Modern Era (since 1900) to strike out 300 batters in a single season. How many of those pitchers can you name in five minutes?

Good luck!
