Happy 46th birthday to six-time MLB All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger and two-time MLB home run champion, Jose Bautista!
After spending the first half-decade as a relatively anonymous Major Leaguer, Bautista burst onto the Big League scene with a 54-homer season for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010. That was the first of six-consecutive All-Star games the Dominican Republic native made, developing a reputation for thunderous long balls.
Bautista is also at the center of two of the more famous baseball moments of the 2000s, with one likely a more pleasant memory than the other. His bat-flip in Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS against the Texas Rangers is one of the most iconic, as is the punch Rangers infielder Rougned Odor landed on him in May of the next season.
All told, Bautista played in 15 seasons for seven teams, retiring after 2018 with 1,496 hits, 975 RBI and 344 home runs to his name.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Bautista is one of 34 MLB players to hit 50 home runs in one season. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
