The Houston Astros are currently both two-games below .500 and out of first place in the American League West, but they’d be in much worse shape without the production of slugger Yordan Alvarez.
The eight-year veteran hit the seventh grand slam of his career on June 30 against Minnesota and finished 3-for-4 to even the series with a 6-4 win over the Twins. In his age-29 season, Alvarez currently boasts the highest on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS+ to go with his 26 dingers and 60 RBI.
After playing just 48 games for a Houston squad that missed the postseason for the first time since 2016 last year, Alvarez has also already surpassed his games played from the lost campaign with 86 so far in 2026.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Alvarez hits for an increasingly rare combination of both power and average, and is on pace to finish with a batting average over .300 for the third time in his career. How many of the active MLB players to finish multiple seasons hitting at least .300 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
